These system guides students through the problems they need to solve. Hwang et al. Concerning critical thinking and AI, Schwarz et al. (2018) investigated the use of SAGLET (System for Advancing Group Learning in Educational Technology), as an AI tool that makes use of ML. The tool can help teachers monitor and facilitate group learning by allowing them to observe multiple groups simultaneously while engaging in a certain computer task. By analyzing the behavior of the students, for example the steps they take in their problem solving and the chat in which they talk to fellow students, SAGLET can alert the teachers when critical learning moments occur among their students. The participants had the task to solve three geometrical problems in a Virtual Mathematics Teams environment. The results of the study showed that all participants had a more meaningful learning experience, partially facilitated by the feedback they received at convenient moments from their teacher (Schwarz et al., 2018). Conclusion By supporting teachers to integrate new technologies through the world of AI-STEM, young students will improve their digital competencies and understand the fundamentals of their own digital skills. Now more than ever, an intrinsic change is needed across national curricula to ensure that students are exposed to learning environments that will benefit them both in the present, and the future.
